Sophomore Ben Graham was a finalist in the state tournament. The Panthers had four regional champions in Andrew Smith, Bill Vollono, Joe Mihoces and Paul Macknis. Mihoces and Macknis won county championships as Annapolis High concluded a sensational season, highlighted by a first-ever trip to the state dual meet championships. Annapolis had a great season but the sweetest victories came the night the Panthers stunned Old Mill and Chesapeake to win their first-ever regional dual meet crown. The pair of astonishing upsets earned the Panthers a trip to the state dual meet championships. They shocked previously undefeated Paint Branch 33-18 in the semis before falling to the powerful Mount Hebron in the finals 44-15. Annapolis capped the season by finishing 3rd in the county tournament, 2nd in the region tournament, and 4th in the states, where the Panthers were represented by eight wrestlers: Graham (30-5 and 2nd place), Smith (28-3), Vollono (30-6 and 4th place), Mihoces (28-7 and 5th place), Macknis (31-5 and 4th place), Blake Schlaich (19-13), Tim Baker (19-11) and Jack Dawson (30-8 and 6th place). |
